Aeris Aura : an asymmetrical triangle shawl with an aura of its own. The repetitive stripes of ripple lace and two-color brioche make this a rhythmic and soothing shawl to knit.

Surround yourself with an aura of bliss. Aeris means “air” in Latin; I was inspired by the kite shape and the lightweight yarn, like it’s floating in the air.

If you enjoyed my Current Mood, you’re going to LOVE this one!!

Yarn Notes:
You can choose 4 colors of muted merino linen like I did (the yarn is not as saturated with color because of the gorgeous linen), or maybe something bright and cheery. This pattern uses a heavy fingering weight yarn. Normal fingering / sock yarn may be substituted, but please note that your gauge and shawl size, as well as yardage / meterage, may vary. I highly recommend swatching first to make sure you like the fabric and that your gauge is similar to or exactly like mine. See the last photo here for what my yarn looked like before winding.

Skill Level:
Beginner brioche friendly!! Basic brioche skills are not required, this is a fantastic pattern to learn with. I wrote this pattern to be very approachable to beginners who want to try brioche knitting!! The brioche stripes are straightforward and broken up by garter stitch and ripple stripes. No brioche increases or decreases here!

Techniques used:
knit, purl, yarn overs, knitting increases and decreases, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), Twisted German Cast On, Elastic Bind Off, kite-shawl shaping.

This pattern is both written and charted for your convenience!

Construction Notes:
This asymmetrical triangle shawl is a gorgeous kite shape, which has such a fascinating construction. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it as much as I did! This shawl was inspired by my Current Mood shawl, using similar stitch patterns in a new and interesting way. You will begin with the first part of your shawl, with a small Lace Ripple Stripe. Stitches are increased at the right and left edge, with stitches decreased in the center. With more increases than decreases, your shawl will begin to grow. As it gets larger, you will begin a Two-Color Brioche stripe (my happy place, maybe it’s yours as well). You will repeat Lace Ripple stripes and Two-Color Brioche stripes until you reach the correct number of stitches. At this point, you will begin the second part – with the stitch count remaining the same! The Lace Ripple and Two-Color Brioche stripes will be repeated, except you will no longer be working the increase at the left edge of the shawl. This continues until you bind off!

This is the perfect shawl for fall!! It’s big but not TOO big, and is so cozy and squishy!! I love wearing this shape kerchief-style, wrapped around my neck with the bottom of the triangle pointing downwards.
