Description

I donā€™t know about you, but my moods have been all over the place since the start of the global pandemic. A total rollercoaster of emotions. So here is myĀ Current MoodĀ shawl. No matter your mood, make this shawl your own. Maybe you want bright, saturated colors. Maybe you want low saturated neutrals. Hopefully this pattern will also elevate your mood, if you are feeling low. The repetitive stripes of ripples, garter stitch and two-color brioche in this rectangular shawl are knit on the bias, creating beautiful angles of waves, color and texture. I found the repetitiveness to be soothing, comforting, something to look forward to when I started my day. I hope you do too.

This was an amazing collaboration with Wendy, the dyer behindĀ Amanda Hope Yarn! I met Wendy at DFW Fiber Fest several years ago. I just love supporting local Texas fiber artists.

KITS!!!Ā Amanda Hope Yarn has some amazing kits available in their webshop, check them out HERE!! Be sure to check out the rest of their shop too, they have some beautiful combos put together if you like different colors than my original sample.

Grab 3 skeins of fingering weight yarn in 3 different tones: light, medium, and dark for the best outcome!! Gradients or fades work very well! If substituting yarns, please note the yardage amounts. You can see the yarns that I chose for my sample in the last photo on this page.

Skill level:Ā Beginner brioche friendly!! Basic brioche skills are not required, this is a fantastic pattern to learn with. Techniques used: knit, purl, yarn overs, knitting increases and decreases, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), bias shawl shaping. I wrote this pattern to be very approachable to beginners who want to try brioche knitting!! The brioche stripes are straightforward and broken up by garter stitch and ripple stripes.

Construction Notes:Ā This lightweight rectangular wrap is knit on the bias from side to side, cast on edge to bind off edge. Once the stitches are cast on, 1 stitch is increased at the right edge, while 1 stitch is decreased at the left edge, to create a lovely angle for the stripes to follow. You will begin with the sequence that will be repeated until the Border of the shawl: a Ripple, then Two-Color Brioche, Ripple Stripes, and a second Two-Color Brioche. Each stripe will be a completely different color combination so that you can see every outcome, keeping you engaged and eager to see what the next color combo will reveal. The shawl ends with Ripple and Garter stripes for a calm and soothing Border.
