Chapter 2, Pattern 4: Twinkle.
A snug cowl knit using a combination of two-color brioche vertical stripes and honeycomb brioche texture.

This cowl pattern takes one of my favorite brioche textures and teaches you how to knit it in the round! This design combines two-color brioche with two-color honeycomb brioche, a brioche texture that mimics a honeycomb-like pattern. The contrast color yarn is completely in the background, while the main color yarn shines in the front, almost twinkling with texture. You will work two-color brioche vertical stripes with your contrast color shining in the front. This adds a dramatic distinction between the two stitch patterns. Julie Asselin’s Leizu yarn was quite perfect for this project because of the sheen of the silk. Grab some high-contrast DK weight yarn for your project, maybe even with some speckles or variegation for your main color.

Yarn Notes:
Grab 2 skeins of DK yarn in contrasting colors. I highly recommend high contrast for the best outcome. Speckled and variegated yarns are perfect for brioche knitting, but keep in mind that heavily variegated yarns may blend a bit more than expected. Yarns with primarily wool content work best, but adding a bit of silk in there really makes this delightful to work with and gives your finished object that gorgeous shine!

See last photo here of my yarn in skein form.

Skill Level:
Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are highly recommended.

Construction Notes:
This cowl is knit completely in the round from bottom to top (or top to bottom, depending on how you’re wearing it). Once you have established the stitch pattern repeats, and placed your stitch markers, you will be repeating the same 4 rounds over and over until you reach your desired length. The pattern alternates between Two-Color Brioche and Two-Color Honeycomb Brioche, creating modern stripes in different widths. The Two-Color Brioche will actually be worked with your contrast color shining on the Main Side of the fabric, which will create a stark contrast with the Honeycomb Brioche.

This cowl is so easy to wear and throw over any outfit!
