May the Fourth Be With You!! Introducing my Women of Star Wars shawl for 2024!!!

Reydiant : The Force awakens with this semi-circle two-color brioche shawl, inspired by Rey Skywalker, her iconic hairdo and the dichotomy she faces in her trials. Will you choose the Light Side or the Dark Side?

Yarn Notes:
This was an AMAZING collaboration with Emily from Fangirl Fibers! I asked her who her favorite female character from Star Wars is, and she said Rey Skywalker!! So this shawl pattern is inspired by Rey, and Emily dyed these gorgeous custom colors to represent Rey’s Light and Dark Side. I don’t want to give anything away in case you haven’t seen Episodes VII through IX, but these colors are SO perfect.

Grab 4 skeins of fingering / sock yarn in 2 colors for this brioche shawl pattern! I highly recommend high contrast for the pattern to really pop, using the lightest color as your Main Color. Semi-solid or tonal yarns are perfect for this, maybe with a bit of speckles.

See the last photo here of the yarn I used for my sample in skein form!

Construction Notes:
Inspired by Rey Skywalker from Star Wars, this half-circle shaped shawl is knit from center back down, with increases along each edge as well as 2 additional increase points along the center of the shawl, dividing it into 3 sections or wedges. 12 stitches are evenly increased every 12 rows. Using a combination of radical increases and decreases, small buns to resemble Rey’s iconic hairdo cascade down each increase band, which will create beautiful lines dividing the shawl. A dramatic border completes this shawl, utilizing the same radical increases and decreases that were used for the edging, but in a more intricate way. You will continue with the shawl shaping increases until the end of the shawl, the organic shapes that represent Rey’s hairdo, the symbol of the Resistance and the petals on Rey’s staff and lightsaber hilt. There’s a bit of a nod to the Millenium Falcon at the very end, do you see it?

I wear this shawl with the top edge around my neck, and the border edge at the bottom. I wanted the shape to be cape-like, imagining Light Rey as a Jedi in her cloak, or Dark Rey as a Sith wearing her sinister cape.
