Description
Princess Leia :: a rebel, a role model, an icon.
To the Lost Princess :: Rebel Three is a crescent-shaped whimsical lace shawl inspired by Princess Leia from Star Wars, knit using the three-color brioche stitch.
I wanted to finish the trilogy!! This is the same pattern as my Rebel shawl (which includes Rebel One and Rebel Two), but using Three-Color Brioche!! Don’t be scared! It might sound weird, but it is quite straight forward. You only work with one color at a time, no sliding back and forth. I am working on a free video tutorial to share with you to help!!
Skill level: Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are not required, but are recommended. Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche increases and decreases.
Construction Notes: This crescent-shaped shawl is knit from center back down, with increases along the edges. Using a combination of radical increases and decreases, small brioche bobbles are created to adorn the top edging. The shawl is finished with a dramatic lace border, utilizing the same radical increases and decreases that were used for the edging, but in a more intricate way. The brioche lace was all inspired by Princess Leia’s iconic hairdo, the Rebel symbol, and galactic ships from Star Wars.
This pattern is both written and charted, for your convenience!
One size: 70” / 178 cm wingspan and 21” / 53 cm depth, measured after blocking. Schematic included with pattern.
MATERIALS:
Yarn: 910 yds / 832 m Fingering / Sock weight yarn total
A: 300 yds / 274 m
B: 320 yds / 293 m
C: 290 yds / 265 m
Shown in:
A: 1 skein Aya Fibers Merino Singles in Potluck 9 (light blue; 100% Merino wool; 400 yds / 366 m per 100g)
B: 1 skein Miss Babs Hot Shot in Be All, End All (medium blue; 80% SW Merino wool, 20% Nylon; 400 yds / 366 m per 114g)
C: 1 skein Chasing Rabbits Fiber Co. Solo in Festival (dark blue; 100% Merino wool; 437 yds / 400 m per 100g)
Yarn Notes: This is a great pattern for stash diving!! Grab 3 solid or semi-solid skeins of fingering yarn in a gradient of colors! Choose 3 different tones for the best result: light, medium and dark. I do not recommend using speckled or variegated yarns for this project because it can make it difficult to distinguish the pattern.
Needles: 40” / 101 cm long US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. Circular needles are used to accommodate large number of stitches.
Tools: tapestry needle, row counter, cable needle or locking stitch marker for use with decreasing sts, 17 stitch markers for noting lace repeats, optional locking stitch marker for noting MS of work.
Gauge: 15 sts x 25 rows = 4” / 10 cm; measured in even three-color brioche stitch knit flat (taken after blocking). Gauge swatch instructions included with pattern.
Huge huge thanks to Mara from Aya Fibers and Dawn from Chasing Rabbits Fiber Co for their yarn support!! Many thanks also go out to Meaghan Schmaltz for her awesome tech editing skills, and to my amazing test knitters, who helped this shawl pattern become a reality!!
