Oops, I Shrunk It Again! : A design-your-own striped symmetrical triangle-shaped shawl knit from the top down, using the two-color brioche stitch.
Oops, I shrunk my Stash AGAIN!! This shawl was inspired by my first pattern of its kind, Honey, I Shrunk The Stash! This original pattern was knit using one-color brioche, so of course I wanted to design a two-color brioche version! Think of this shawl as a blank canvas, a beautiful blank canvas for you to use your own creativity and instinct to design the shawl of your dreams using only your stash yarn. Leftovers, random balls of yarn that are so old you can’t even remember who made it or where you bought it, or even completely intentional color choices, like those gorgeous one-of-a-kind skeins of artisan yarns you have but never want to use because you haven’t found the perfect project yet. THIS is the project. Go with your gut. Plan out your entire color palette for both the Main and Contrast Colors before casting on, and then change your mind after a few stripes! Maybe you just want repeating stripes of 2 or 3 colors. Maybe you want a shawl that looks exactly like mine. I have created diagrams that are included in this pattern showing exactly how many rows I knit with each color so that you can mimic exactly what I did using your own yarns (or maybe you even have the colors that I used!). There is also a Coloring Page, so that you can plan out and design your own masterpiece. And yes, the name was inspired by Britney Spears’ song, “Oops, I Did It Again”, released in 2000.

Skill level:
Beginner brioche friendly!! Basic brioche skills are not required, this is a fantastic pattern to learn with. Keep in mind that it is knit flat with one brioche increase.
Techniques used:
knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brkyobrk (2-st brioche increase), top-down triangle shawl shaping. I wrote this pattern to be very approachable to beginners who want to try brioche knitting!!
This pattern is very easy to modify and create the size you want based on how much yarn you have!

Construction Notes:
You will knit this symmetrical triangle-shaped shawl using two-color brioche, starting from the top edge and increasing 8 stitches every 2 brioche rows until binding off. 2 stitches are increased at each edge, with an additional 4 stitches in the center. This helps to create the deep triangle shape with a long wingspan. You will add a stitch marker to note the center stitch, which will look like a “brp” or valley stitch on the Main Side, with the increase stitches on either side. Adding stripes to this two-color fabric accentuates the “V” chevrons created within the shawl itself. It also makes it exciting to knit and hard to put down!
I love wearing this shawl kerchief-style, with the top edge wrapped around my neck and the bottom bind off edge hanging down.

55 (68)“ / 140 (172.5) cm wingspan and 25 (41)” / 63.5 (104) cm deep, measured after blocking.

21 sts and 22 rows = 4” / 10 cm (measured in two-color brioche stitch knit flat, taken after blocking)

Small: Emma’s Yarn Splended Singles (100% Superwash Merino; 400 yds / 366 m per 100g)
MC: 1 skein in Vacay (pink speckled)
CC: 1 skein in Harbor (teal)
Large: I grabbed a wide variety of lace, fingering & sport weight leftovers from my stash, including many different bases. See Page 5 for all yarns used in my finished sample. I do not have exact amounts listed for each yarn.
Additional yarn notes:
For the Large shawl sample, yarn is listed in an approximation because I used a mixture of different lace, fingering & sport weight bases for both the Main and Contrast Colors. I have noted that the yarn weight that I used in this shawl is fingering / sock weight. Please note that this means the gauge is an approximation, and your gauge may vary from yarn to yarn and stripe to stripe if you decide to mix bases as well. This shawl is written as more of a formula, making it very easy to customize for more / less yarn!
» Needles:
40” / 101.5 cm US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles
Circular needles are used to accommodate a large number of stitches. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain proper gauge.

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, row counter or preferred method for keeping track of pattern, 1 stitch marker for noting center stitch, optional locking stitch marker for noting Main Side of work
