Ketchum All Shawl : An elongated hexagon-shaped shawl, knit from side to side, showcasing two- color brioche Poké Balls in different sizes and addictive slip-stitch stripes, all inspired by Pokémon. Gotta Catch ‘Em All!!
This shawl was originally designed in collaboration with Emily from Fangirl Fibers and Knit ATX, exclusively for Brioche Confidence Camp in 2026! I was inspired by the Pokémon collection of yarn developed by Emily. This shawl is named for Ash Ketchum, from the original Pokémon series.
Yarn Notes:
Grab 3 skeins of fingering weight yarn in light, medium and dark tones for the best outcome! Speckled and variegated yarns are beautiful with brioche knitting.
See last photo here of my yarn in skein form.
This pattern has both written instructions, as well as charts for all brioche sections except for the Slip Stitch Stripes. I highly recommend working from the charts for the best knitting experience.
Skill Level:
Intermediate – Advanced. I highly recommend having previous brioche knitting experience before making this shawl.
Techniques Used:
knit, purl, slip-stitch pattern over stockinette, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), sl1yo, brioche increases and decreases, Twisted German Cast On, Elastic Bind Off
Construction Notes:
This elongated hexagon shawl is knit in one piece from side to side, starting and ending with very few stitches. You will cast on your stitches, then work a two-color brioche triangle, increasing at either edge until you reach the number of stitches needed for the majority of the shawl. Once this is reached, you will no longer be increasing any stitches. You will work multiple stripes, alternating between two-color brioche Poké Balls of different sizes and a
lovely slip stitch pattern which divides the brioche sections. While working each brioche section, you will switch up your color combinations so you can see every combo within the entire shawl! You will start with Small Poké Balls, then to Medium and Large. Then towards the end of the shawl, you will combine all 3 sizes together. Your shawl will end with a large slip stitch stripe, and then another brioche triangle, where you will be decreasing back down to very few stitches before binding off.
I love wearing this shawl wrapped around my neck to keep me super warm, or loosely draped around my shoulders. The colors switching up make it look like way more than 3 colors in the shawl! It’s also completely reversible.
