Fuzzy Feathery Shawl : A fuzzy, textural asymmetrical triangle shawl resembling lightweight feathers, knit using the two-color brioche stitch.
I developed this pattern with Chicken Coop Dyeworks and was super inspired by chickens and feathers!! This shawl pattern is meant to be used with a fuzzy lace yarn and a slub fingering yarn to achieve the best results. But feel free to substitute any lace weight and fingering weight for this pattern! You could even try two skeins of fingering weight yarn from your stash or favorite yarn brand. But be aware that your yardage / meterage amounts will vary from what is included in this pattern. The nature of this shawl shape makes it very easy to modify by adding or omitting pattern repeats, and the construction makes it easy to see the size of your shawl.

Skill Level:
Intermediate. I recommend previous brioche experience before knitting this shawl pattern, especially if you want to try using mohair and slub yarn together. It took me a few rows to get used to the yarn, but then I was HOOKED!

Construction Notes:
Do you have 2 skeins of very special yarn in your stash? Maybe a fuzzy yarn that is just so gorgeous you HAD to get it but have no idea what to make with it? Or maybe a slub yarn that looked super cool but now sits on your shelf, waiting to become something magnificent? This is your project!! Pair one skein of laceweight fuzzy yarn (mohair/silk blend, Suri alpaca, or maybe some silk) with one skein of fingering weight yarn (I used slub, but you could use any fingering weight you have on hand!) to create a lightweight, summery shawl!!
You will begin with just a few stitches, and then work shawl shaping increases at the right edge of your shawl. As it grows, so does that feathery brioche stitch pattern. There are a lot of even brioche rows in between the “fancy” rows (with increases and decreases to create the gorgeous pattern), so think of it like a little brain break. This shawl is super easy to modify by adding or omitting repeats, depending on what size you want and how much yarn you have! Since it’s knit from side to side, you can see how long it’s getting as you knit.
This is my absolute favorite shawl shape. The nature of the fabric is so lightweight, making it the perfect warm-weather accessory! Wear it over your favorite summer dress on a night out, or cozy up at home during the cold months.
» One Size:
58” / 147 cm long and 30” / 76 cm deep, measured after blocking.
» Gauge:
20 sts and 21 rows = 4” / 10 cm; measured in two-color brioche stitch pattern knit flat (taken after blocking).

Main Color (MC): 393 yds / 359 m Lace
Contrast Color (CC): 412 yds / 377 m Fingering

MC: 1 skein Fluff in Lavender (light purple; Lace weight; 72% Mohair, 28% Silk; 459 yds / 420 m per 50 g)
CC: 1 skein Nest in Moody Hues (purple variegated slub; Fingering weight; 90% Superwash Merino, 10% Nylon; 437 yds / 400 m per 100 g)
» Needles:
32” / 81 cm US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles
Circular needles are used for two-color brioche knitting and for ease of shawl knitting. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain proper gauge.
» Tools:
15 stitch markers for noting pattern repeats, tapestry needle for weaving in ends, row counter or your preferred method of keeping track of pattern, locking stitch marker for noting MS of work (optional)
