Chapter 3, Pattern 4: Coffee and Jewels.
A retro-inspired circular yoke sweater, knit entirely of two-color brioche.
This sweater was inspired by my shawl pattern, Coffee At The Grand! When I was designing it, I imagined a woman wearing it at the Grand Hotel from Wes Anderson’s film The Grand Budapest Hotel as she drinks her favorite espresso. Coffee and Jewels is the sweater that she wears at home relaxing, perhaps with a cup of coffee in her hand. This pattern does not have the 4-st decrease, and I would consider it an intermediate sweater pattern. It’s very repetitive, with each stripe exactly as the one before it once you get past the yoke shaping. The jewel tones of the yarn dyed by the ladies of Lattes and Llamas yarn are also what inspired the name of this pattern. They dyed the yarn for Coffee at the Grand as well, so it was only fitting to use their yarn again for this design. I hope you enjoy this pattern. The stripes that continue along the sleeves and body make this sweater exciting to knit and oh, so fun to wear!
Yarn Notes:
Grab 5 different colors of fingering weight yarn to create this striking piece for your wardrobe! This is also a great
way to use up leftovers or those one-of-a-kind skeins of yarn in your stash. You could even grab MORE than 5 colors and create different stripes for the entire sweater!
Skill Level:
Intermediate – Advanced. I highly recommend having previous brioche experience before knitting this sweater. It is very repetitive after the circular yoke shaping!
Techniques Used:
Twisted German / Old Norwegian Cast On, knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), sl1yo, brioche increases and decreases (no Br4st dec!), knitting in the round, Elastic Bind Off.

Construction Notes:
This is a top-down, circular yoke-style sweater with alternating colors. Using 5 different colors of fingering weight yarn, you will begin by casting on the stitches for your neckband, and then work seamlessly in the round for the entire yoke shaping. Once the yoke shaping is complete, you will divide the Body and the Sleeves. The Body and Sleeves have identical striping, finished with the same 5 alternating Stripes that you worked for the yoke shaping. There is no shaping all for the Body or Sleeves, creating a boxy top with bell sleeves that is wonderful if layered over your favorite dress, or with a pair of jeans and boots.
Two-color brioche creates a gorgeous reversible fabric, so now it’s like you have two sweaters!
