Description

Canyon Sunset is a rectangular wrap with color blocks of geometric two-color brioche patterns and three-color garter stitch stripes, inspired by the colors at sunset in Palo Duro Canyon, Texas.

When I finished this shawl and was trying to come up with a name for the pattern, my husband told me it reminded him of the colors at sunset in Palo Duro Canyon. It’s a beautiful place in the panhandle of Texas, where he went horseback riding once when he was young.

The Wool Kitchen has kits on their website, here!

Choose 3 skeins of fingering weight yarn in 3 different tones for the best results! I chose a light solid, a medium speckle, and a dark solid for my version, but there are no rules at all! You could go with all solids, or all speckles, or a mixture of the two!

Skill level: Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are not required, but are recommended. Techniques used: knit, purl, knitting increases, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche increases and decreases, rectangular shawl shaping.

Construction Notes: This wrap is knit from side to side. It is divided into 6 different sections, alternating between Two-Color Brioche and Three-Color Garter Stitch Stripes. You will be repeating the same brioche geometric stitch pattern, but switching which yarn colors you will use together. This way, you will get to see all of the different color combinations you can create with just 3 colors of yarn! You may add or omit pattern repeats to modify the length of your shawl, either in the brioche or garter stitch sections. Be aware this may use more or less yarn than specified.

This pattern is both written and charted, for your convenience!
