Description
Feeling all the Winter Vibes :: a thick, squishy hug of a shawl with extreme crescent shaping and a graphic arrow applied border, knit using a combination of two-color brioche color blocks, and garter stitch stripes, all finished with an i-cord edge.
Skill Level:Â Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are not required, but are recommended. Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche increases and decreases, knitting on an applied border, playing with different colors
Construction Notes: This crescent shaped shawl is knit from the top center back down, starting with a small i-cord tab cast on for a seamless transition to the main body of the shawl. You will then move on to two-color brioche color blocks, while continuing the i-cord edge. After working 3 distinct color blocks with two-color brioche, you will move on to relaxing garter stitch stripes. These two sections will seem to fly by, and you’ll be starting the graphic arrow two-color brioche Applied Border before you know it! Color Blocks are created again to keep the border engaging and fun!! The extreme crescent shaping within the body of the shawl in combination with the Applied Border create a beautiful ruffly shawl that will wrap perfectly around your shoulders!
I have included a photo tutorial with step-by-step instructions on how to knit the Applied Border, with some fun designer tips as well (thanks to my awesome test knitters)! The Applied Border is both written and charted, for your convenience.

Notes about choosing yarn:Â Have fun with this pattern!! I have written the pattern specifically for the color blocks shown here, but feel free to mix it up! Choose 3 completely different colors (light, medium, dark) for a high contrast shawl, or 3 similar colors for a subtle beauty. Go all speckles or all solid, or a combination of the two! YOTH Daughter is considered a light worsted, so a DK weight yarn may also work for this pattern. I highly recommend knitting a gauge swatch if you will be substituting yarns, as your shawl size may vary. I really branched out of my normal COLOR comfort zone to knit a monochromatic version, but feel free to go crazy with colors and even knit a stash buster version!
Needles: 32” or longer US 8 / 5.0mm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. Circular needles are used to accommodate large number of stitches and for brioche knitting.
Tools: 2 additional DPN’s or circular needles in gauge size, tapestry needle, row counter
Gauge: 17 sts x 20 rows = 4” / 10cm; measured in even two-color brioche stitch (taken after blocking).
Thank you thank you to Ve and Danny of YOTH Yarns for their endless support and beautiful yarn! I also want to thank my amazing tech editor, Meaghan Schmaltz notsorryknitter, and all of my fabulous test knitters!! Without them, this pattern would not have been possible.
