Winter Deco : a delicate cowl featuring graphic art deco-inspired brioche towers, surrounded by garter stitch backgrounds.
I love the Art Deco period. The design, the graphics, all of it. This cowl was inspired especially by the Chrysler Building in Manhattan, which was designed and built during that period. Are you ready for winter to go away, dreaming of warmer temps and bright blossoms? I know this pattern is called Winter Deco, but this is a fabulous piece for your wardrobe to help transition to Spring and the warmer months!
Skill level:
Beginner brioche – Intermediate. The brioche increases and decreases in this pattern are quite straight forward, and are broken up at the end with two-color garter stitch.
Techniques used:
knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brkyobrk (2-st brioche increase), left and right slanting 2-st brioche decreases, knitting in the round, i-cord cast on and bind off. I wrote this pattern to be very approachable to beginners who want to try brioche knitting!!

Construction Notes:
You will begin with an i-cord cast on to create a gorgeous finished edge to the bottom of your cowl. After joining in the round, you will work 12 Deco Towers around the cowl, alternating in two different sizes. They will start out with some brioche increases and decreases, with all two-color brioche fabric. Then you will slowly add in some two-color garter stitch on either side of the Towers to create the arched top. You will bind off using the matching i-cord bind off for a finished look.
I love to wear this cowl loosely around my neck, but it can also be doubled up for extra warmth!
