Spiderwebby Hat : A stranded colorwork hat perfect for all spider and spiderweb lovers, sized for the entire family!

Inspired by seeing me designing my Spiderwebby cowl pattern, my youngest son asked me for a hat version so he could look like Venom. I thought, why not design it to release right in time for Spooky Season?? This hat is perfect for spider and spiderweb lovers, but also lovers of Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Ghost Spider, Venom, you name it!! And it is sized for everyone in your life!!

Yarn Notes:
I recommend choosing colors with high contrast to really help the Spiderwebby colorwork to pop! Taking a black and white photo of the yarns next to each other will help to determine their value and how much contrast they have. I chose black for my MC and a neon orange (that also glows in black light) for the CC, for the ultimate Halloween combo!! You could choose anything for your inspiration, like Spider-Man, other fun Halloween colors, or just go for traditional black and white!

See photo here of my yarn in cake form.

Skill Level:
Beginner Colorwork Friendly! This is a fantastic first stranded colorwork project if you are new to the technique!! It is very repetitive and only uses 2 colors.

Techniques Used:
knit, purl (for ribbing), knitting in the round, stranded colorwork, Long Tail Tubular Cast On, knitting decreases

Construction Notes:
This hat is knit from the bottom up, beginning with the brim. You will cast on your stitches and knit a stretchy ribbed brim to create a lovely fit to the hat. Then you will move on to the exciting Spiderwebby colorwork body of the hat, while switching to a larger needle size to help stretch out your colorwork a bit. The crown of your hat is also made using the same Spiderwebby pattern, with decreases added in a sneaky way to create the illusion that the spiderwebs are getting smaller and smaller.

This hat is meant to fit with negative ease and a bit snuggly. If you want to add extra height to your hat for a slouchier look, you can certainly add an extra repeat of the Spidwebby pattern, which will add about 1’’ / 2.5 cm.

I truly hope you enjoy your new hat!! It’s perfect to celebrate the Spooky Season or your favorite super hero!
