Seriously Self Striping Cowl : A one-color brioche cowl designed with self striping sock yarn in mind!
Size Notes:
The sizes noted for this cowl represent the fit. So the close-fitting cowl is meant to be a bit tighter around the neck and longer, while the loose-fitting cowl will have a wider circumference, have more drape and be a bit shorter in depth. See below for the sizes of my cowl and corresponding measurements.
There are extensive notes included with this pattern to help you choose your own size based on your ball or skein of self striping yarn!
Yarn Notes:
The yardage / meterage listed here is an approximation. This pattern is designed as more of a formula, so that you can use your favorite self striping yarn and create your own personal size! I used the entire ball of yarn for both my samples. Please note this pattern is also wonderful to use with ANY sock yarn, including speckled, variegated or solid.
See the last photos here of the yarn I used for both my samples in ball form!

Construction Notes:
This one-color brioche cowl is knit completely in the round, starting with a simple stretchy cast on. It is a beautiful backdrop for using self striping, variegated and speckled yarns! After you cast on your stitches, depending on the yarn that you are using, you will work one-color brioche until you reach your desired length. Your cowl will be bound off with an equally stretchy bind off.
I created 2 sizes / styles for this pattern, which you can follow exactly as I have written. You can also read this pattern as more of a formula to create your own size cowl based on the yarn you have!
I truly hope you enjoy brioche knitting, especially if you are new to this fascinating technique!
