Cozy Gamer Hat : A beautiful snowy landscape scene hat inspired by a fan favorite video game, knit completely in stranded colorwork, sized for the entire family!

I have been playing Minecraft for years, introduced to it by my kids. It is known as a “cozy game”, especially if played in Peaceful mode (no monsters). I love the sandbox aspect of it, that it’s this open world where anything can happen! I also love the pixelated nature of the game art, which makes it perfect for knitting patterns. My favorite landscape or “biome” to build in is the snowy tiaga. It is so peaceful when the snow starts to fall and even the snowflakes are perfectly pixelated.

Yarn Notes:
Choose 7 different colors for this snowy landscape hat, inspired by Minecraft, one of my favorite video games! I used 7 mini skeins in a color palette I developed from Fangirl Fibers’ Gothic Whimsy box 2024. Use your own minis to put together a color palette of your own or even use up some leftovers in your stash! I highly recommend using solid, semi-solid and tonal yarns for this to have the best possible outcome.

See photo here of my yarn in skein form.

Skill Level:
Beginner Colorwork Friendly! This is a fantastic first stranded colorwork project if you are new to the technique!! It is very repetitive and only uses 2 colors at a time.

Techniques Used:
knit, purl (for ribbing), knitting in the round, stranded colorwork, Twisted German Cast On, knitting decreases

Video Tutorial:
Twisted German Cast On: http://bit.ly/TwistedGermanCO

Construction Notes:
This hat is knit from the bottom up, beginning with the brim. You will cast on your stitches and knit a stretchy ribbed brim to create a lovely fit to the hat. Then you will move on to the beautiful landscape colorwork body of the hat, while switching to a larger needle size to help stretch out your colorwork a bit. You will start with the ground covered in snow, then a light snowy sky, blending into a dark snowy sky. The crown of your hat is also made using the same snowy sky pattern.

This hat is meant to fit with negative ease and a bit snugly on your head. It does have a nice drape with the extra height for a slouchy look. The ultimate Cozy Gamer Hat!
