AntiGravity : Defy gravity with this symmetrical marquise diamond-shaped shawl, knit from side to side using two-color brioche with a striking motif radiating from the center and edges.
Yarn Notes:
Grab 2 skeins of fingering or light fingering yarn for this two-color brioche shawl! I’ve written this shawl pattern to work with most skeins of fingering weight yarn. If you want to ensure that you have enough yarn for this design, weigh your yarn before using and then weigh again when you’re getting close to halfway. This will help you to know how much yarn you’re using and whether you’ll have enough to finish. Feel free to modify the size of your shawl based on how much yarn you have.
See the last photo here of the yarn I used for both my samples in skein form! Two-Color Brioche can have the illusion of creating a brand new color by combining the two.
Skill level:
Intermediate – Advanced. I highly recommend having basic brioche knitting skills before knitting this shawl.
Techniques used:
I-cord Tab Cast On, knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp) sl1yo, brioche increases and decreases (new br8st dec!!! – video included), side to side diamond shaping, i-cord edging, i-cord Bind Off.

Construction Notes:
This shawl begins with a gorgeous i-cord tab cast on, which continues as an i-cord edging in the Main Color along both edges for the entire shawl. This funky symmetrical diamond shape is knit from one corner to the other by increasing on both edges until you reach the center, then decreasing on both edges until you reach the same stitch count as the beginning of the shawl. The increases and decreases are worked in 6-row increments, which help to give this shawl a longer wingspan. While working the shawl shaping, you will also be creating an elegant radiating motif along the edges and in the center, decreasing at the edges and increasing in the center for the Shawl Increase Half, and increasing at the edges and decreasing in the center for the Decrease Half. This causes that radiating look that reminds me of a black hole, thus the name of AntiGravity! These increases and decreases in the decorative motifs will not affect the stitch count but will affect the final shape of the shawl. While you’re knitting, it will be very 3-D but will mostly flatten out with washing and blocking, leaving a slight bump in the center of the shawl.
This shawl shape is so interesting and is so fun to knit! Think of it like an art piece for your wardrobe. I love wearing this shape draped over my shoulders, or wrapped a bit more tighly around my neck and tied in a bow. Because of the 3-D nature of the center of this shawl, you could even wear it as a hood, with the ends wrapped around your neck! The easiest way to wear it is to fold it in half along the center spline and wear it as a triangle shawl doubled up, super warm!
